Eat, Sleep, Poop
Back to basics to thrive: what we forgot that we desperately need again
Dear readers,
I’m in my Eat, Sleep, Poop era — and I have absolutely no shame about it.
After five intense years of school + working part time, I pushed my mind and body beyond its limits.
Side note:
Whenever we push/stretch our body or mind past its limit we are stressing the system. When we stretch something it becomes weaker. More space (vata) can enter and the stability of the structure or system becomes vulnerable. For example: It’s easy to fall sick when you are stressed or have been travelling. If you overuse a muscle, it can be more prone to injury if it isn’t properly strengthened. When our mind is overworked we are more prone to stress, anxiety and have issues with overwhelm.
I’m choosing to pause. I’m clearing my calendar, focusing only on priorities - honouring rest like it’s a sacred ceremony and tending to the most fundamental needs of being human. And surprisingly (or not), I’m feeling better than ever.
It turns out, babies have it right.
They live by instinct. They haven’t yet been programmed to override their needs in favor of productivity, politeness, or ambition. They eat when they’re hungry — and they demand to be fed. They sleep when they’re tired — wherever they are. And as for elimination? Well… thank goodness for diapers.
But then we grow up.
We start eating at odd hours, skipping meals, over-caffeinating, sleeping poorly, and ignoring the signals our bodies so clearly send us. We push through fatigue, hold in bowel movements and our tears, we try to do too many things at once… all while wondering: What’s wrong with me?
The real question is: What happened to the basics?
We decided they were optional. Negotiable. Replaceable with hacks and hustle. But the truth is — they’re not.
These three pillars of health are non-negotiable. They govern how well we function and how well we feel. Let’s break them down:
🥣 Inputs: What We Take In
What we eat, how we eat, and when we eat matters.
Eating in rhythm with our natural hunger supports digestion.
Choosing food that suits our constitution, the season, and our digestive strength protects our health.
Drinking enough warm or room-temperature water nourishes our cells and supports Agni (digestive fire).
🚽 Outputs: What We Let Go
Healthy elimination — of stool, urine, and sweat — is crucial for detoxification and we need them to be eliminated daily.
Allowing all of our bodily urges to happen: Not withholding urine, stool, tears, gas etc.
If these processes are irregular or impaired, the whole system suffers.
😴 Rest: When We Repair
During sleep, the body heals and regenerates.
Without enough consistent, quality sleep, we accelerate wear and tear.
Sleeping in sync with nature (darkness at night, minimal daytime naps) supports our body’s recovery and hormonal balance.
When we’re unwell — physically, mentally, emotionally — the first and often most effective thing we can do is return to these basics:
Eat well. Sleep deeply. Eliminate fully.
It sounds simple because it is. But it’s also deeply powerful.
We don’t always need supplements, pills, or productivity tweaks.
We need rhythm and rejuvenation.
So for now, I’m embracing the wisdom of infancy.
Eat. Sleep. Poop.
It’s not just a trend. It’s survival.
With care,
Thalita
